A section of the Agikuyu community living in Migori county has condemned the Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga’s sentiments on the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, terming them as reckless and lacking humanity.
While addressing the press at Migori town, the group said Kahiga’s speech does not reflect the collective view of members of the Agikuyu Community, which regards life sacred, urging the relevant authorities to hold the governor personally liable.
Njoroge Chege, a businessman at the Migori Central Business District (CBD) urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to summon Kahiga over thecontroversial remarks about the late former premier.
Already, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has commenced the process of summoning Kahiga following his recent insensitive remarks.
Samuel Karitu, another businessman from Migori town, urged the Nyeri Governor to make an unreserved public apology to the people of Kenya for his utterances.
The Agikuyu community living in Migori also welcomed the step taken by the Council of Governors (CoG) to distance themselves from the Governor’s statements, as well as removing him as the Vice Chairperson of the CoG.
The controversy erupted after a viral video showed Kahiga making remarks at a burial in Nyeri, implying that Odinga’s death was “God’s plan” to redirect state resources to the Mt. Kenya region.
“We want to have a country, where we respect everyone, even those who are dead,” said Karitu.
