John Murumba Chikati has won the Tongaren parliamentary seat under the FORD Kenya party ticket after garnering 20, 689 votes.
He trounced sitting MP Dr. Eseli Simiyu of DAP- K who garnered 9, 563 votes. Returning officer, Edwin M. Kaburia announced the results and issued the MP elect a certificate.
Dr. Eseli Simiyu, also the DAP- K secretary general has been the MP of Tongaren since 2013.
Chikati has been working in the office of the President as a secretary for strategy. He thanked the people of Tongaren for electing him as their MP amidst tough economic times.
“I am deeply humbled by your support, and I want to assure you that I am going to work day and night to make sure that your concerns are heard and addressed,” Chikati said adding that together as a community they will grow.
He thanked Dr. Simiyu for serving the people of Tongaren well and for giving his best.
“We pick up from there and together, push the development agenda forward,” he said.
