Youths in Narok East have urged their fellow youngsters not to be swayed by rogue politicians into causing fracas during political rallies, ahead of a visit by Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leaders led by former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.
The youths called on residents to remain calm, uphold peace and exercise their constitutional right to attend political meetings of their choice, while urging voters to listen to political messages from various leaders and make informed choices when electing leaders in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking ahead of the visit, a youth who doubles up as a religious leader, reverend Alex Karia said adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure the meeting takes place peacefully, noting that the community had a long-standing culture of promoting peace.
Karia cautioned youths against allowing themselves to be used by politicians to disrupt political gatherings, saying such actions could undermine peace and expose young people to unnecessary conflict.
Meanwhile, Narok East youth representative Raphael Esho said the youth were ready to welcome Gachagua and other DCP leaders, dismissing reports circulating on social media alleging insecurity ahead of the meeting.
Esho said the reports were aimed at discouraging residents from attending the gathering, adding that security agencies had made adequate preparations for the event.
He urged the youth to reject attempts to incite them into violence and instead use political rallies as platforms to hear different leaders’ manifestos and ideas before making informed choices at the ballot in 2027.
The leaders appealed to political actors and their supporters to maintain peace throughout the political season, stressing that political differences should not be allowed to undermine the unity and tranquility enjoyed by residents of Narok County.
