Nyandarua students want mentorship programmes enhanced

College students from Nyandarua County have expressed frustration over insufficient financial aid, noting that limited bursaries often fail to cover rising tuition and living costs.

To counter this, the students are calling for enhanced mentorship programmes to provide guidance, career pathways and networking opportunities that can offset financial hardships.

Speaking on the sidelines of an induction training for the Nyandarua County and Tertiary Students Association (NTCSA) leadership in Ol-Kalou town, they noted that the current level of funding is inadequate, given the increasing need for college and university education.

Joseph Mathenge and Simon Kimani, who are the NTCSA Secretary General and Chairperson, respectively, now want the government to reinstate the issuance of bursaries by the county governments to enable more needy students to access it.

They want the court cases challenging the kitty to be concluded in order to resolve the matter.

On his part, Edward Kigo, the Chief Officer for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, expressed commitment by the county of Nyandarua in supporting youths and students to enable them to continue with their education.

He said the county administration had created more internship opportunities for students and hence challenged them to take advantage of such initiatives.
