Construction of the Maili Nne-Kapsiboi-Kapkeben road is progressing steadily, bringing relief to thousands of residents of Kapsaos and Kiplombe Wards, Turbo Sub-County.
The project, currently undergoing hand-packing, grading, gravelling and compaction, began with contractors blasting and leveling a steep, rocky barrier that has for years hindered smooth transportation and stifled economic activity in the region.
The terrain, once a nightmare for commuters and farmers alike, is now being transformed into an all-weather road. The project was officially launched last Thursday by Uasin Gishu Governor, Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Bii underscored his Administration’s commitment to rural development, noting that the road is a key component of his Nguzo Kumi Agenda, specifically Pillar Number Six on Enhanced Road Network for Development. “This is not just a road, it is a lifeline,” said Governor Bii.
“For years, our people in Turbo have suffered in silence due to poor infrastructure. Today, we are not just opening-up a path; we are opening-up opportunities for trade, education, and healthcare.
Under the Nguzo Kumi Agenda, we promised to uplift our people, and this project is a testament that we are walking the talk,” explained the county boss.
The Governor further assured residents that his Administration will continue prioritizing rural access roads, describing them as the backbone of the county’s economic growth.
“We are committed to ensuring that no corner of Uasin Gishu is left behind. This road will open-up the region, boost agricultural production, and enhance the livelihoods of our people,” he added.
The project is under the watch of Roads Inspector, Mr Peter Yator, from the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Yator emphasized the importance of delivering a durable product that offers value for money to the taxpayer.
“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the contractor delivers quality workmanship that meets the required standards,” said Mr. Yator.
“We are conducting strict inspections at every stage, from the initial blasting to the final compaction, to guarantee that this road withstands the test of time and serves our people for decades to come,” he added.
The project also includes comprehensive drainage works, a critical component designed to ensure the road’s durability against the region’s heavy rains.
For the residents of Kapsaos and Kiplombe, the ongoing works are a dream come true. The road, which was previously impassable during rainy seasons, is expected to significantly reduce travel time, lower transport costs, and open- up the area to markets for agricultural produce.
