Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo has outlined the gains the county had realized during his administration stressing that digital integration was a critical pillar in his achievement.
He told MCAs during the State of the County Address that the county had prioritized the implementation of the digital platform to improve service delivery and enhance efficiency across county departments.
He however cautioned against retrogressive political undertones among leaders saying such tendencies threatened the progress made.
He presented his scorecard before the Vihiga County Assembly, highlighting strides made across key sectors including agriculture, education, health, and trade during the year 2025.
The governor at the same time expressed concern over what he termed a growing wave of “negative energy and social media politicking” within the county. He said such behavior has stalled several development projects due to a rise in court petitions and legal challenges.
Citing the case of Luanda Municipality, Governor Ottichilo criticized a section of residents who moved to court to block the elevation of Luanda to municipal status. He said such actions not only delay progress but also undermine the county’s long-term development goals.
“We cannot afford to be derailed by constant court battles and negative energy,” he said. “It is imperative that we, as a county, move forward and work towards sustainable development.”
The governor urged residents to rally behind the county’s development agenda and embrace initiatives meant to improve livelihoods. He also called on the youth to use social media responsibly, avoiding the spread of misinformation that paints the county in a negative light. Instead, he encouraged them to participate constructively in discussions that promote growth and transformation.
Governor Ottichilo concluded by calling for unity and collective responsibility in driving the county forward, emphasizing that progress can only be achieved when residents work together with a shared vision.
Speaker of the County Assembly, Christopher Omulele, announced that debate on the governor’s address will continue next Tuesday as the Assembly reviews the proposals and charts the path for further development.
