Pilot, two others arrested on suspected robbery

Police  in Moyale have arrested three suspects following a daylight robbery  on Wednesday where an unknown amount of money belonging to Equity Bank  was stolen at the Oddha airstrip.

The  three suspects are the air craft pilot, co-pilot and a security officer from the Wells Fargo Security Company.

While confirming the incident that occurred at 4.00 pm, the Marsabit County Police Commander (CPC), Ambrose  Steve Oloo   on Thursday  said an aeroplane from Nairobi landed at the Oddha airstrip at 4.00 pm with three people aboard namely Alex Kirate, who is the pilot, John Onunga who is a co-pilot and Nelson Lang’at, a security officer from the Wells Fargo Security Company carrying an unknown amount of money from the Equity Bank headquarters Nairobi.

The  CPC  said after landing, the pilot opened the door of the aircraft and alighted to go and check the remaining fuel in the aircraft and in the process three strangers emerged one armed with a pistol and ordered the three to lie down forcing the pilot to open the door where they took two sacks of cash and sped away in a motor bike which had been parked near the airstrip.

Oloo  said  no one was injured during the incident and that the aircraft has not been released, adding the three officers have been arrested saying the remaining sack of money has been taken by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for further investigations.

The  CPC however, appealed to the members of the public who could have seen or identified the Registration Number of the motor bike to volunteer information which will be treated with a lot of confidentiality.
