Police in Kisumu County have seized more than 1,000 litres of illicit alcohol in a raid targeting an illegal brewing operation in Muhoroni Sub-County.
According to the authorities, the operation was carried out by officers from Miwani Police Station and Kibos Police Post, in collaboration with local chiefs, on Saturday, May 23.
The joint operation moved in on suspected brewing sites linked to production of a local illicit alcohol commonly known as “chang’aa.”
Police officers, acting on intelligence, launched a successful crackdown on illicit brews and drug dens in Kasiaya Village and Obumba sub-location.
They noted that the notorious manufacturing dens in the area were hidden along local streams and within the vast agricultural plantations.
During the raid, officers successfully dismantled two major illegal production sites and destroyed over 1,000 litres of Kangara.
They also confiscated and destroyed on site multiple fermentation drums and jerrycans used in the illegal distillation process.
