Police summon MP Jhanda over Keumbu incident

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisii has summoned Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda over the violent attacks on a convoy of the Linda Mwananchi’s faction leaders that occurred at Keumbu, along the Kisii–Keroka Road, on Friday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the National Police Service (NPS) said the legislator is required to appear before the DCI offices in connection with the ongoing investigations regarding the incident.

The police revealed they had also successfully arrested four additional suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.

“Meanwhile, investigations remain ongoing as the Service continues to pursue further leads in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved,” read the statement.

NPS further reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, and vowed to continue to take decisive action against anyone who threatens public safety or disrupts public order.

The Linda Mwananchi’s faction leaders’ convoy of vehicles was pelted with stones by a group of individuals in Keumbu, leaving several people seriously injured and vehicles vandalized.

The incident has sparked outrage from political leaders and civil rights groups, who have called for speedy investigations into the matter.
