Residents of Migori town have been urged to liaise with law enforcement officers by voluntarily reporting insecurity incidents as a way of preventing the situation from spiralling out of control.
The call by police comes just a day after a local businessman was shot by unknown gunmen while heading home from his business premises on the night of September 23, 2025.
The businessman sustained severe gunshot injuries on his upper back and is currently undergoing treatment at Bosongo Hospital in Kisii, where he awaits surgery to remove lodged bullets.
Speaking on the matter, Suna East Sub County Police Commander(SCPC) Samwel Boit confirmed that while the assailants are still at large, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have already launched investigations to ensure the culprits are apprehended.
Boit cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, instead urging them to report disputes to the relevant conflict resolution offices for peaceful settlement.
He further acknowledged that crime rates in Migori town have been on a rising trajectory, but assured residents of his commitment to restoring order and ensuring safety.
The shooting incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Migori County with residents in recent months reporting increased robberies, gang activities, and violent crimes.
The SCPC also extended an olive branch to individuals in possession of unlicensed firearms, urging them to surrender the weapons to security agencies before being caught in the ongoing crackdown.
