The Government has released a total of Sh28.8 million to 4,800 families in Nyeri registered under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) program.
The Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services yesterday announced the release of funds under the CT-OVC program for the months of April, May and June.
In a statement availed to the press, the Ministry said the money had been disbursed to the respective households’ accounts and was available for withdrawal through the contracted Payment Service Providers(PSP). Payments commenced on July 31 2026 with each household expected to receive Sh6,000.
Nyeri County Children Services Coordinator, Joseph Mburu, told KNA the Sh2,000 disbursement which was released last week is for April, May and June and clarified that the process of preparing the payment for July was at an advanced stage and will be paid out soon.
“The money which is being paid out is what was in arrears for the months of April, May and June. We are also waiting for the disbursement for the July payments anytime soon once the necessary paperwork is complete. This is good news for both guardians and children under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children,” explained Mburu.
The officer also clarified that the money will be accessed either through normal channels of the e-wallet or be withdrawn at any Mpesa agent at no cost.
The ministry has advised beneficiaries who have not yet withdrawn their payments to first confirm receipt of the official notification from their PSPs before visiting a paying agent.
Those encountering challenges in accessing the funds have been advised to visit the nearest sub County, County or Regional Children’s office or dial “1533” toll free number for assistance.
Mburu also advised eligible households who are yet to be captured in the system to be patient and await the announcement for the next scale up exercise.
He said once the government gives the nod for the registration of new beneficiaries, his office would liaise with relevant stakeholders in sensitizing the public through appropriate channels.
“At the moment we are only dealing with those households that are in our current register since we have not added other beneficiaries. We haven’t done any scale up yet but we are hoping it will be done soon. Once it is announced our people will be told through the chiefs, local media stations and through our sub county officers. We will also involve our churches and even mosques in passing the information to the public,” he said.
The last time the Government released money for the CT-OVC was in March when the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services disbursed a total of Sh 860,396,000 to 430,198 households spread across the country.
Currently the Government operates three cash transfer programs: Persons with Severe Disabilities (PWSDs), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and Older Persons (OP-CT).
By July 2024 there were at least 22,000 persons enlisted under the Inua Jamii program in Nyeri according to data from the office of the Social Protection and Citizens Services.
A total of 17,000 of the beneficiaries were registered under the OP-CT, 4,000 under the OVC while 1,300 were PWSDs.
In June the same year the Government opened an Enhanced Single Register for all persons eligible for Government social assistance through the Consolidated Cash Transfer Program Management Information System (CCTPMIS)
The preparation of an enhanced Single Register is a World Bank funded program whose objective is to enable the Government to have a common database for all persons who qualify for social protection owing to their individual special needs.
Under the CCTPMIS system, OVCs and PWSDs receive their monthly payments through their Mpesa accounts unlike in the past where such monies were sent through individual bank accounts.
