Police in Bondo are holding a Tanzanian gold trader, in connection with the murder of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University student.
The gemstones dealer identified as 28-year-old Maximilan John Madeni, is the main suspect in the murder of Alice Rianga, aged 20, whose body was discovered last Saturday at a thicket in Barkowino area in Bondo township location by women who had gone to fetch firewood.
According to Bondo Sub-county Police Commander, Robbert Aboki, Rianga was last seen alive on 6th May in her hostel within Bondo town, when she left to go and check for missing academic marks at the University.
Aboki disclosed that Rianga’s roommate, Kayla Wanyonyi, had come to report a case of a missing person on Sunday and her description matched that of the body which had been discovered the previous day at a thicket.
The Sub-county Police Commander stated that preliminary investigations point to the suspect, Madeni, whom the roommate Kayla, confirmed was dating the late second-year Bachelor of Education Science student.
“We have information that the suspect was picking Alice Rianga in his vehicle every night and dropping her at her hostel the following morning,” said Aboki.
Aboki revealed that Rianga’s phone was switched-off at Kopolo area at around 5pm on 6th of May.
The Police Commander said the late Rianga may have been killed elsewhere, before being dumped in the thicket, because there were no signs of a struggle in the location and the body had no underpants.
The body of Rianga is currently at Bondo Sub-county Hospital morgue, as police continue with investigations.
