Three suspects arrested with bhang during drugs crackdown in Garissa

Three suspects were arrested in Mororo area while in possession of 353 stones of bhang worth Sh75, 000 in the ongoing government’s effort to fight illegal drugs and alcohol abuse in Garissa and its surrounding towns.

Police are also pursuing another suspect who managed to evade arrest in the operation and was said to be the ring leader, supplying bhang in Madogo and Garissa towns.

Bangali Sub-County Police OCPD Karani Ephrain assured the residents that the suspect at large would soon be apprehended given that they have reports of his hideouts.

“We have arrested three suspects and are pursuing the main suspect at large as we have information where to get him with the ongoing operation together with NACADA as the government has directed us to undertake,” said Karani.

The OCPD has also given a stern warning to club owners operating near learning institutions to vacate while they could.

“We are going to close down clubs that are operating near schools and learning institutions following the government’s directive,” he said.

North Eastern NACADA Regional Manager Rev. Wangai Gachoka stated that the buildings and assets belonging to those suspected to be peddling drugs would be seized by the government using the Psychotropic Substance Control Act of 1994.

“Using the Psychotropic Control Act of 1994, we will seize this building and three motorbikes proven to be transporting the substance,” noted Rev. Gachoka.

The Reverend also warned peddlers of unprescribed pharmaceuticals in the region to stop their illegal activities or face the law in the ongoing operations.
