Two patients on Tuesday underwent successful knee surgery at the Busia County Referral Hospital.
The surgery which has been a preserve of Kenyatta National Referral Hospital for the past 21 years got its way to Busia courtesy of the American doctor Jerry Cooper.
Dr. Cooper was assisted by a Kenyan Doctor, Daniel Odipo and his daughter, Cyndy Odipo
Speaking to the press after the surgery, Odipo said the exercise that took one and a half hours normally costs Sh.500, 000 but was being offered free to the residents.
“Total knee replacement normally cost Sh.500, 000 but today we are here with implants and products we use and we are doing it free,” he said.
He urged those in dire need of the operation to take advantage of the free exercise, adding that those suffering from arthritis can also benefit from the service.
The County Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation, Dr. Isaac Omeri thanked the doctors for carrying the surgical camp, while expressing hope for more cooperation in
future.
