Two people die after their vehicle runs over IED in Ijara, Garissa County

Two people have died after a vehicle (Probox) he was driving ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Wednesday in the Mathah Adon area between Ijara and Bothai sub-counties in Garissa County.

The completely destroyed remains of the deceased Abdikadir Mohamed—the driver—and a passenger he was carrying Abdirahman Shabelle were collected in polythene bags and buried in the Ijara Muslim cemetery.

The wrecked, burnt vehicle was towed to Ijara police station.

Residents have since appealed to the subcounty security apparatus based in Bothai Sub county and Hulugho Sub County to be vigilant as the area neighbours the Al Shabab-prone Boni forest.

Bothai Assistant County Commissioner Dubat Mohamed said the region is neighbours the Boni forest and Lamu County and the porous border with Somalia.

He appealed to the residents to work with area security agents and report visitors to the authorities.
