The Uasin Gishu County Peace Committee has finalized arrangements for the International Day of Peace, 2025, celebrations.
The International Peace Event will be celebrated on September 19, at Huruma grounds, Turbo Sub County way ahead of its official date 21st September which falls on a Sunday.
Speaking when she chaired the planning committee meeting for the event on behalf of the Turbo DCC, at the County Commissioner’s boardroom, Eldoret, Senior Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Dorothy Jepkogei lauded the stakeholders both from county, national government and private sector for their collaboration in terms of resource mobilization and support to make the day a success.
She affirmed the need to raise awareness on national cohesion and integration in order to promote understanding and appreciation of diversity, peaceful coexistence and the role of national unity in sustainable development.
The County Peace Committee called for strong partnerships to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV) while at the same time encouraging communities to actively participate in local peace structures through sensitization forums, capacity building workshops and inclusive dialogue platforms.
In her remarks The National Steering Committee on Peace Building Initiative, Uasin Gishu County Peace Coordinator, Madam Viola Sang emphasized on the importance of the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World” which calls for concrete, individual and collective actions to foster peace by addressing the underlying causes of conflict and inequality
The County Peace Coordinator underscored that the celebrations and activities for the day of peace will focus on dialogue, reconciliation and community engagement through football tournaments to emphasize the importance of maintaining peace despite challenges.
The one-day football tournament with the message ‘Kick-out Violence, Score for Equality’ organized by the county peace forum with support from stakeholders aims at uniting diverse groups across gender, age and ethnicity.
“The day will serve as a reminder of the strength and resilience of communities in Uasin Gishu County in overcoming adversity and striving for a peaceful future,” she noted.
The County Peace Forum which encompasses peace committees from sub counties, Civil Society Organizations, Council of Elders and faith-based organizations from across the six sub counties of Soy, Moiben, Ainabkoi, Turbo, Kesses and Kapseret emphasized the message of peace in order to sensitize the members of the communities from across the county to embrace peace and foster national development.
