The Vihiga County Government has intensified efforts to strengthen financial accountability and compliance through a capacity-building programme targeting officers in the Department of Finance and Economic Planning.
A team from the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) Good Governance Programme paid a courtesy call on Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo at his office ahead of a two-day training aimed at enhancing the implementation of audit recommendations arising from reports by the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).
The training brings together staff from the Department of Finance and Economic Planning and seeks to improve compliance with Public Finance Management (PFM) laws, regulations, and policies.
It is also expected to strengthen accountability, transparency, and service delivery to residents by supporting the effective implementation of recommendations contained in OAG and PPRA audit reports.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Ottichilo lauded GIZ for its continued partnership and support to the county in various sectors, noting that such collaborations play a key role in enhancing governance and service delivery.
The Governor further revealed that his administration has already established a fully functional committee and an Internal Audit Office tasked with addressing audit queries promptly and ensuring adherence to financial management standards.
He reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to sound financial management practices and continuous improvement in governance systems to enhance public confidence and promote efficient utilization of public resources.
