The Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation has embarked on capacity building committees managing National Government projects to enhance their management skills.
Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said lack of knowledge among committee members running various projects had collapsed many projects leading to wastage of government resources.
“The projects end up falling apart due to leadership wrangles. Others personalize the projects making them not to serve the desired purposes,” the CS said.
Kariuki spoke on the sidelines of a capacity building exercise for various water development committees for Nyandarua Central Sub County.
She observed that the National Government had invested heavily in community projects necessitating capacity building among management committees to ensure the projects’ success.
“Water is a critical component towards the realization of the President’s Big Four Agenda and it is prudent to have a properly trained committee,” said Kariuki.
However, she lamented that such projects may fail to succeed if members fail to work together or are mismanaged.
The CS at the same time chided a section of politicians for politicizing government projects saying they were doing a disservice to Kenyans.
The participants lauded the training organizers noting that they were now armed with knowledge that they will apply to achieve the desired objectives.
