A youthful woman appeared in Ngong Law Courts today for allegedly stealing from a man in Ongata Rongai contrary to Section 230 of the Penal Code.
The accused, Eunice Wanjiru, currently being held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, is said to have administered a drug substance to Erick Mwangi on May 17, 2025, along Umoja Road in Ongata Rongai township within Kajiado County.
Court documents indicate that she acted jointly with others not before the court, intending to steal property valued at Sh150,000, belonging to Erick Mwangi.
According to witness statements, Ramsey Karanja, a boda-boda rider who operates in Rongai, was hired by Wanjiru near Karanja’s home in an area referred to as ‘Doctor’s’ from an entertainment club in Rongai.
Karanja said he ferried the two at around 1:00 p.m. and noticed Mwangi appeared extra drunk compared to Wanjiru.
Upon arrival at Mwangi’s home, Karanja told the court that Wanjiru told him to wait for her, and he waited for more than 30 minutes until Wanjiru came out and told Karanja to take her back to the entertainment club he had picked them up so as to get her sweater.
Karanja added that Wanjiru sent Sh1,000 using Mwangi’s phone, noting that on arrival at the said entertainment joint, instead of retrieving the sweater as promised, she was left consuming alcohol.
Wanjiru is accused of attempting to intoxicate and escape with Mwangi’s belongings, namely a Samsung Galaxy A16, an Infinix Hot 10, a Victron TV, an HP laptop, an electric iron box, a three-seater seat, a Go TV decoder, a carpet, a 13 kg gas cylinder, and 10 pairs of shoes, summing up to a total of Sh150,000.
Mwangi, who later reported the incident, claimed to have been drugged by the accused and robbed during the encounter.
Investigations by officers from Ongata Rongai Police Station and a medical officer from the Ministry of Health Rongai confirmed the administration of an intoxicating substance.
The police conducted investigations and recorded statements from witnesses and forwarded the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
During the first court appearance on June 24, 2025, Principal Magistrate Hon. A.N. Makau set the accused’s cash bail at Sh70,000, which they appealed for it to be reduced, and it was reduced to Sh50,000.
The prosecution, requested more time to call additional witnesses, and the next hearing, which was set to happen on July 21, 2025, was postponed to August 12, 2025, to allow the completion of investigations and inclusion of medical reports.
The case mentioned today and the next hearing has been set for January 12, 2026, as police pursue other suspects believed to have been involved in the attempted theft.
The complainant, Mwangi, says the ordeal left him shaken.
