Nandi County launches digitization of health services

Nandi County has officially launched the digitization of health services across all its health facilities, marking a significant step toward enhancing efficiency and quality in healthcare delivery.

Speaking during the official rollout at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, Governor Stephen Sang hailed the initiative as a transformative milestone in the county’s efforts to deliver accessible, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare.

The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and involves the deployment of digital tools and infrastructure to hospitals, health centres, and dispensaries throughout the county.

“This is a historic day for healthcare in Nandi. Through this digitization programme, we are streamlining operations, improving patient care, and laying a solid foundation for a more responsive health system,” said Governor Sang.

As part of the rollout, the county distributed digitization gadgets and equipment to several health facilities to facilitate the seamless integration of the system. The new tools will support electronic medical records, real-time data access, inventory management, and analytics to guide decision-making and resource allocation.

According to the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for health, Dr Angeline Kirui, the digitization programme is expected to reduce paperwork, minimize medical errors, and speed up diagnosis and treatment by ensuring healthcare workers have immediate access to patient histories and lab results.

The system will also bolster the county’s ability to track and manage medical supplies more effectively, preventing stock-outs and wastage.

Health workers present during the event welcomed the initiative, noting that it will reduce administrative burdens and improve workflow.

The programme is in line with the national government’s broader Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, which aims to ensure all Kenyans have access to quality and affordable health services.

Governor Sang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and leveraging technology to meet the needs of Nandi residents.

He noted that the county will continue working closely with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and sustainability of the digitization effort.

“This is about putting patients first. With digital systems in place, our health workers will be empowered to offer better care, and our people will experience a more efficient, responsive, and transparent health sector,” he said.

Residents have also expressed optimism that the new system will cut waiting times and improve service delivery at health facilities.
