Ministry rolls out free typhoid, measles jabs

The Ministry of Health in Bondo sub-county is set to commence a ten-day vaccination campaign against Typhoid and Measles Rubella  from Saturday, 5th July.

Bondo MOH Dr. Otieno Anyango said the vaccination exercise, which will run from July 5 to 15 targets children between 9 months to 14 years for Typhoid and 9 months to 5years for measles.

Dr. Otieno disclosed that the vaccinations, which will be given free of charge in 34 public facilities, two faith-based (Nyangoma and Nyamonye mission hospitals) and six selected private hospitals namely Havens, Quinteric, Bondo Medical, Acela, Afya Tele and Matangwe hospitals, target to reach 85,535 children (Typhoid) and 25,000 children for measles rubella.

He revealed that besides the health facilities, the exercise will also be conducted in schools, churches, beaches, markets and through a door-to-door strategy to reach out to the children who are exposed to the typhoid virus due to their poor hygiene practices.

Dr. Otieno said the jabs which will be given to the children in the exercise which is also being conducted nationally are safe, adding the public should bring their children in large numbers to benefit from the vaccinations.
