Governor Nassir Launches the Construction of Bofu Level 2 Hospital

Mombasa County has marked a significant milestone in its healthcare journey with the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bofu Level 2 Hospital in Likoni Sub- County.

The event, held at Peleleza Grounds, was a testament to the county’s commitment to bringing accessible, community-centred health services closer to its residents.

During the ceremony, the county government demonstrated its commitment to responding to healthcare needs by offering free child immunisation and Social Health Authority (SHA) registration drives on the site.

The county plans to upgrade the facility to a Level 4 Hospital, further solidifying its commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to its residents.

Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir emphasised the importance of community inclusion in the project, announcing that labour for the hospital’s construction would be sourced from the youth of Bofu area.

“This hospital is not just a building, it’s your hospital. It will be built by you, and for you,” he said.

The Governor also revealed plans to create employment opportunities for the youth of Bofu during the hospital’s construction, including hiring new nurses and doctors. This initiative aims to boost the local economy and provide young people with meaningful employment opportunities.

Furthermore, Governor Nassir unveiled plans for the Mombasa Residents Card, a digital or physical ID that will prioritise local residents in service delivery. The card will offer discounted medical services under SHA, easier access to bursaries, and serve as a gateway to empowerment programs.

“This move aims to streamline and personalise county services, particularly in healthcare and education,” stated the Governor.

Governor Nassir also urged Members of the County Assembly to expand public participation forums, emphasising that the county government is more effective when it listens to the people directly.

“Let us not just build structures, let us build trust. Only through open dialogue can we truly meet the needs of Mombasa residents,” he said.

On her part, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko highlighted her ongoing campaign to rehabilitate youth affected by drug abuse, aiming to reintegrate them into productive programmes like Kazi Mtaani.

She commended the county government’s commitment to improving the area, citing better roads, drainage systems, and expanded early childhood development centres.

“Our young people must not be left behind. This is a time for healing and rebuilding socially and economically,” she affirmed.
