Kenyans have been urged to foster peace and always resolve their differences in a peaceful way and within the constitutional framework.
Led by the Deputy President Dr. Kithure Kindiki, several leaders drawn from the national government said that everybody has a right to differ with the government but they must do so in a peaceful manner.
“Those who are criticizing the government have a right to do so but let it be done in a peaceful way. We won’t allow destruction and violence in the country. Our country must remain safe, united and a country where investors have confidence in the safety and security of their investment,” said Kindiki.
He lauded Kajiado Central residents and their Member of Parliament Memusi Kanchori for maintaining peace throughout as the constituency has been peaceful despite several other areas in Kajiado being rocked by violent protests.
On his part, Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi said that peace is paramount for development to take place.
“In 2007 during the post-election violence, 1,400 people lost their lives, lots of properties were destroyed and it took 42 days of mediation for peace to resume. Let us not undermine the peace and stability in our country. The Constitution allows us to have peaceful demonstrations but it does not allow us to kill and to destroy people’s property. Let us respect that,” said the Prime CS.
He urged fellow leaders to stop inciting the youth but instead be a good example to them in terms of good leadership and values adding that leaders must talk to each other and not at each other.
While urging Kenyans to obey the law and shun tribalism, the Prime CS also urged everyone to respect and protect critical government institutions, The Executive, Judiciary and the Legislature for the country to be stable.
Cabinet Secretary for Defense Soipan Tuya also urged everyone to maintain peace and focus on the development agenda and not on tribalism and violence.
The leaders were speaking during a bursary funds drive in Kajiado Central Constituency organized by the area Member of Parliament Memusi Ole Kanchori.
