The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu has warned politicians against meddling with the union’s affairs.
Oyuu told teachers to be wary of politicians who want to infiltrate into the imminent union elections.
The Secretary General’s remarks come in the wake of KNUT national elections that are scheduled to be held at Tom Mboya labour college in Kisumu this Friday. Delegates from 110 branches countrywide will cast their votes.
Oyuu raised concerns that some aspirants were working with outsiders to interfere with the union affairs.
Speaking in Homa Bay Town Monday while on a campaigns trail, Oyuu said such aspirants should not be elected.
“It is very unfortunate that somebody is referring to himself as biblical Moses yet he cannot lead anybody anywhere.” said Oyuu.
He told KNUT delegates to vote wisely during the elections in Kisumu.
The unionist said he rescued the union from challenges which put it on the brink of collapse some years back.
“Teachers know where we have come from with this union and what we have done to strengthen it. I appeal to teachers to shun aspirants whose main intention is to impede the gains which the union has made,” Oyuu added.
He pleged to improve the welfare of teachers if elected for another term.
“If someone calls himself Moses then I am Joshua. I am the one who is going to deliver teachers to Canaan.” Oyuu said.
The Secretary General claimed his camp had been endorsed by majority of teachers in Nyanza region. The region has 21 branches spread across six counties.
Oyuu’s camp is made of Parick Munuhe as the national chairman, Treasurer James Ndiku and Hesborn Otieno as the Deputy Secretary General.
“I have been on a tour of consolidating my Nyanza backyard. All the 21 KNUT branches in the six counties have confirmed their support for my team.” Oyuu said.
