Chiefs to intensify voter registration mobilization in Rachuonyo

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), in collaboration with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), has intensified efforts to boost voter registration in Rachuonyo Sub- County ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Rachuonyo Deputy County Commissioner Silvester Mwangulu has directed chiefs and their assistants to step up mobilisation campaigns to ensure all eligible residents are registered as voters.

Speaking on Monday during the launch of the mass voter registration exercise in Kasipul Constituency, Mwangulu emphasised the critical role of NGAOs in the process, particularly in grassroots mobilisation.

“As NGAOs, we are committed to ensuring that all unregistered voters are reached and encouraged to register. We will utilise our administrative networks down to the village level to achieve this,” he said.

He urged chiefs to work closely with village elders to identify and mobilise eligible residents, especially the youth who possess national identification cards but have not registered as voters.

Mwangulu noted that chiefs are well-positioned to identify strategic locations where residents can easily be reached, including public gatherings such as funerals, churches, boda boda stages, markets, and barazas.

“It is the responsibility of chiefs to map out these areas and collaborate with IEBC officials to ensure more people are registered,” he added.

He further called on chiefs to intensify public awareness campaigns during barazas and other community forums to encourage maximum participation and help the constituency meet its voter registration targets.

Kasipul Constituency IEBC official Godfrey Obiero said the commission has been conducting continuous voter registration at its office in Kosele but has now rolled out the exercise to the ward level to enhance accessibility.

Obiero revealed that the commission is targeting to register 7,701 new voters in the constituency, which comprises five wards.

He added that each ward has been allocated three Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits, with each kit operated by two clerks to ensure efficiency.

“Registration machines have already been deployed to the field to facilitate the exercise, which will run for 30 days from March 30 to April 28, 2026,” he said.

Obiero noted that the commission has developed a registration schedule that will see each centre host the exercise for three days to maximize outreach.

He called on NGAOs to collaborate closely with IEBC officials as key stakeholders in the process to ensure the registration targets are achieved within the stipulated timelines.
