Voter registration to continue countrywide at Huduma Centres and IEBC offices

Registration of new voters is set to continue for the next five months at all the Huduma Centres and at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices across the country.

According to IEBC Commissioner, Francis Odhiambo, Kenyans will be able to register as voters at any IEBC or Huduma Centre office, allowing more citizens to participate in the upcoming 2027 general election.

The IEBC Commissioner, however, disclosed that the mass registration period, which ends on April 28, would not be extended due to the IEBC’s tight preparation schedule for the August 2027 general election.

Prof Odhiambo, who spoke after meeting various stakeholders at the Migori IEBC Headquarters’ office, said that there was need for enhanced voter education before Kenyans head to the polls next year.

“What is coming out clearly from the stakeholders is the issue of voters’ education, especially on the issue of Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration Exercise (ECVR),” said Odhiambo.

As the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration Exercise (ECVR) draws closer to the April 28 deadline, youths across the country have been encouraged to turn up in large numbers and register as new voters.

During his visit, two days ago, to the Migori County IEBC Headquarters, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Ag Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Moses Sunkuli had urged Migori youth to come out and register in large numbers before the set deadline of April 28.

As of April 21, 30,430 new voters had been registered, representing 60 per cent turnout; the IEBC had set a target of 63,000 new voters for Migori County before the end of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration Exercise.
