Ruiru MP disburses Sh132 million bursaries

Ruiru constituents on Monday received a major boost in education support as the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) disbursed bursary cheques worth Sh132 million to over 17,000 beneficiaries.

The funds target students in day schools, boarding secondary schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, colleges, and universities across the constituency.

Simon Nganga King’ara, the Member of Parliament for Ruiru, personally oversaw the disbursement exercise at the Ruiru Railways Station.

Speaking during the event, the MP emphasized the critical role of education in transforming lives and uplifting communities.

“Today we are proud to disburse Sh132 million in bursary support to more than 17,000 of our bright and deserving students. Education remains the greatest equalizer, and through the Ruiru NG-CDF, we are committed to ensuring no child misses out on learning opportunities due to lack of fees,” Nganga said.

He added that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance access to quality education in the fast-growing constituency.

“We have prioritized bursaries because investing in our youth is investing in the future of Ruiru and Kenya at large. Parents should now focus on providing the necessary learning materials and moral support as their children pursue academic excellence,” the MP noted.

Beneficiaries and guardians who turned up early at the Ruiru Railways Station expressed gratitude for the timely support. Many highlighted the relief the cheques would bring amid rising cost of living and school fees.

The disbursement covers a wide range of institutions, reflecting the diverse educational needs within Ruiru. NG-CDF managers confirmed that the selection process was transparent and merit-based, with priority given to vulnerable households, orphans, and students with special needs.

Nganga further reiterated his commitment to prudent utilization of NG-CDF resources. “My office, together with the NG-CDF committee, will continue monitoring the impact of these funds. We want to see improved transition rates, better performance in national examinations, and more students graduating from TVETs and universities ready for the job market,” he stated.

As schools and institutions prepare for the new academic calendar, the Sh132 million injection is expected to significantly ease financial burdens on families and boost enrollment and retention rates. Residents called on other leaders to emulate such focused development initiatives.

The exercise concluded successfully with calls for continued community participation in NG-CDF projects for sustained progress in Ruiru Constituency.
