Kiambu County to experience reduced rainfall levels after a night of heavy downpour

Kiambu County will experience a continuous reduction in rainfall levels, following an evening of heavy downpour, the Kenya Meteorological Department confirms.

In a detailed seven-day forecast running from Monday, May 11th to Monday, May 18,

the weatherman forecasted that levels of rain will range from lows of five to 10 millimeters to highs of about 50 millimeters.

Between Monday and Tuesday, Kiambu County experienced cloudy and cool mornings, transitioning into scattered showers developing through the afternoon, before culminating into heavy downpour accompanied by thunderstorms well into the night.

In particular, areas such as Limuru, Kikuyu, Lari, Githunguri, Kiambaa, and Gatundu experienced heavier rainfall because of their highland terrain.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, rainfall levels are projected to reduce slightly, ranging from about 15 mm to 35 mm.

There will be mostly cloudy skies, light to moderate showers in the afternoon and evening, occasional thunderstorms in some areas, and overall low temperatures.

Residents are also advised to brace for intermittent drizzles in the mornings.

By Thursday, levels of rain in Kiambu County will be in the low to moderate range from 1mm to 20 mm, following a current heavy rainfall cycle peaking on Wednesday.

Scattered thunderstorms are projected to persist in certain areas.

Between Friday and Saturday, rain levels will have significantly reduced to range from 5mm to 10mm.

Most areas within the county will experience cloudy conditions, light showers, but with a high risk of flash floods in low-lying areas such as parts of Ruiru and Juja.

By Sunday, rain will be at a minimum of about 1mm to 5mm. Cloudy conditions will persist, along with intermittent light showers in the afternoon and through the night.

Daytime temperatures will rise to a high of 22 degrees Celsius, with lows of 15 degrees Celsius in the evenings.

Kenya Met says this reduction of rain levels marks the beginning of the cessation of the heavy rains season, which was projected to run between March and May this year.
