The Ol Kalou UDA candidate Samuel Muchina has condemned the destruction of his campaign Billboard in Captain town by rowdy youth.
Muchina, who was accompanied by Presidential Special Project and Creative Economy officers, reported the incident at Captain police patrol base under OB number 05/28/06/2028.
The UDA candidate said he would report the incident to IEBC, so that the electoral body intervenes to prevent violence during the campaigns ahead of the July 16 by-election.
“I appeal to my competitors to conduct peaceful campaigns. I also urge residents to remain peaceful because the election will pass but we will remain residents of Ol Kalou,” noted Muchina outside the patrol base.
The incident happened on Saturday evening soon after the finals of the Kaibaga football tournament and other sports at Salient secondary school ground in Captain town.
Immediately after Muchina left after awarding trophies to the winners, some spectators started riotous behaviour in the town; they descended on the giant billboard bearing Muchina’s image, while another billboard belonging to his main rival Sammy Kamau of DCP was spared.
According to Muchina, the goons were ferried to Captain town in two lorries, whose number plates he reported to the police.
“These were goons who had nothing to do with teams that were playing in the finals because they had been ferried to Captain,” added Muchina.
This incident of destruction of campaign material was the first to be reported in the constituency since the campaign to replace the late Ol Kalou MP, David Kiaraho, who died in March this year.
