The construction of a Sh. 500 million mother and baby facility (MCH) has kicked off at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital (KCRH).
The 350 bed capacity facility will see mothers and their infants access quality healthcare services with convenience compared to the current situation that has forced mothers seeking healthcare to share facilities due to inadequacies.
Addressing the press on Monday during a tour at the facility to ascertain the status ahead of the Deputy President’s visit scheduled for Tuesday, Governor Stephen Sang said the project is aimed at realizing the government’s agenda in offering affordable universal healthcare.
“As a county government, we have given healthcare a priority and the construction of such a facility marks the achievement of a great milestone,” said Sang.
He also lauded the national government for the support in ensuring that the hospital is equipped with vital machines that aim at promoting quality healthcare.
“The county now has a renal unit, two theaters (one in Kapsabet and another in Nandi Hills), CT Scan diagnostic equipment, MRI and an oxygen plant.
Besides, the governor encouraged residents to make use of the equipment at KCRH thus minimizing the trips made to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) to seek for treatment.
The DP is expected to lay foundation stones at Kobujoy health centre for the construction of a new outpatient unit, KCRH grounds where the MCH facility will be, commission Renal unit, CT Scan and oxygen plant at the facility.
He will also tour Nandi Hills hospital to commission the radiology unit, power upgrade, stand by generator with a capacity of 385kvh, open a new theater, check the progress of Nandi Hills outpatient unit that is under construction.
