As the 2026/2027 Financial Year began on Tuesday, July 1, the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Roads Committee held a special sitting on Wednesday to deliberate on strategies aimed at improving road infrastructure delivery across all wards.
The meeting focused on enhancing efficiency in project implementation, improving livelihoods, boosting the local economy, and driving sustainable development through quality road infrastructure.
Responding to questions from Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Abraham Serem, outlined key milestones achieved during the 2025/2026 financial year.
He said the department successfully delivered 489.5 kilometres of road grading and 316.99 kilometres of graveling under the framework contract programme within two months, describing the approach as highly effective in accelerating service delivery.
Led by Committee Chairperson Hon. Gilbert Chepkonga (Olare/Ainabkoi Ward) and co-chaired by Hon. Francis Muya (Langas Ward), the MCAs emphasized the need for a structured and results-oriented approach in road development.
The leaders agreed on several priorities, including timely completion of projects, prompt payment of contractors, equitable distribution of work across wards, clear reporting on ongoing and completed projects, and adequate budget allocation.
They also discussed the upcoming Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) programme and urged that evaluation and procurement processes be fast-tracked to avoid delays in implementation.
The CECM was accompanied by Chief Officer Geoffrey Tanui, Director of Roads Eng. Julius Ronoh, and Deputy Director Eng. Linus Yego, who provided technical input during the deliberations.
