Vihiga leaders urge peace and unity during festive season

Local leaders in Vihiga County have called on residents to uphold peace, unity and mutual respect during the Christmas and end-year festive season.

Led by Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Women Representative Dr. Beatrice Adagala, Hamisi Member of Parliament Charles Gimose and Governor Dr. Wilber Otichillo, the leaders emphasized that the festive period presents an opportunity for the community to strengthen harmony, compassion and social cohesion.

Speaking during various engagements across the county, the leaders noted that peaceful coexistence is critical for sustainable development and prosperity in Vihiga.

In this regard, Senator Osotsi recently organized an interdenominational musical festival at Kaimosi Polytechnic, which brought together people from different religious denominations in a show of unity and cultural diversity.

“I am going to use my position to create platforms for nurturing talent that will help transform our county,” said Osotsi, adding that such forums promote togetherness and peaceful interaction among residents.

On her part, Women Representative Dr. Adagala said she has been working closely with local self-help groups to empower them through income-generating activities while advocating for peaceful coexistence among community members.

She stressed that unity and harmony among residents are key pillars for development, urging locals to support one another, especially during the festive season.

Hamisi MP Charles Gimose, speaking during a Tiriki initiates’ pass-out ceremony held at Hamisi grounds, urged the youth to take an active role in promoting peace within their communities.

He encouraged young people to shun violence and antisocial behavior, noting that they are vital agents of positive change in society.

Governor Dr. Wilber Otichillo, during a pre-Christmas visit to GK Vihiga Prison, extended goodwill messages to inmates and residents. He donated food items and entertainment instruments to the inmates, underscoring the importance of compassion and inclusivity during the holiday season.

The leaders reiterated their commitment to promoting peace, unity and goodwill, calling on residents to celebrate the festive season in harmony.
