MP Mwirigi plans to equip five ICT hubs

Igembe South MP, John Paul Mwirigi, has revealed plans to equip five ICT hubs in the constituency with more than 300 computers in order to empower the youth and boost employment opportunities.

Mwirigi made the remarks during a bursary application exercise held at Auki Primary School, where he assured students and parents that bursaries will be disbursed early next year to ease the burden of school fees, while assuring that all the deserving cases will benefit from the kitty.

He said the ICT hubs will play a key role in equipping young people with digital skills, enabling them to access online jobs, training opportunities and entrepreneurship programmes, as they wait for formal employment.

“The ICT hubs will help our youth to create employment for themselves instead of relying solely on white-collar jobs,” he said, adding that technology is a critical driver of economic growth.

The MP further revealed plans to subdivide the constituency to create an additional sub-county, a move he noted will bring government services closer to Mwananchi and expand employment scope.

“Increasing administrative units is a major boost towards expanding job opportunities for local residents and by June next year, the constituency will have three sub-counties, which is expected to enhance service delivery and create more employment openings for the residents,” Mwirigi noted.

He urged students to remain focused on their studies and encouraged parents to take advantage of government programmes, aimed at making education both accessible and affordable to the majority of the citizens.
