Police in Ijara, Garissa County, are pursuing a suspect accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl in Bulla Dur, Muhumed Dahir location, Ijara, Masalani sub-county.
The minor, whose identity has been withheld, was reportedly attacked at her home after her mother left to sell milk.
The suspect, armed with a dagger, is said to have forced her into the bush where he defiled her before fleeing.
Confirming the incident, Masalani Police said the girl is receiving treatment at Masalani Level Four Hospital, where she is out of danger and recuperating. The man remains at large, and a manhunt is underway.
Local leaders strongly condemned the attack, urging authorities to crack down on youths roaming with daggers in town, noting that such weapons should only be carried by herders in grazing areas.
Community elders also called on parents to avoid leaving young girls unattended at home, warning that such neglect can expose them to harm.
