The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Uasin Gishu have launched investigations surrounding the death of a 49-year-old woman who was found lying beside Kipkabus-Tarakwa road at Kaplelach village Lelmokwo B Sub Location, in Ainabkoi Sub County.
The deceased, Jeniffer Jelagat, was found unconscious with a deep cut on her forehead by a passer-by and rushed to plateau mission Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her mysterious death caused uproar among the residents of the area who barricaded the Naiberi-Timboroa Road at Kipkabus Junction for the better part of Monday, demanding swift action from the security agencies whom they accused of laxity in the area known for high consumption and trade of illicit brews.
The area residents attribute the increased crime incidences in the area to illicit brews and accused area security agencies of abetting crime which has led to loss several lives due to drunkardness and execution of heinous crimes.
Musa Kirishwa, an area resident who spoke to KNA before security officers who rushed at the scene to quell the chaos, claimed that 4 people including a senior high school teacher, have died in the same area under unclear circumstances and no action has been taken to curb the deteriorating situation.
Confirming the incident, the Sub County Police Commander Stephen Kimunya, said the incident was reported at around 8.30pm Sunday night that a lady named Jennifer Jelagat,49 years, was found lying on the road side, with deep head injury on left side and was rushed to a private clinic at Karungu centre, given first aid and referred to plateau mission hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
Addressing the irate residents who complained of alcohol menace and increased crime incidents in the area, Naiberi OCS, Everlyn Owona who led the operation, urged the residents to keep calm and collaborate with police by providing crucial information to facilitate arrest of the culprits.
The Sub County DCI Officer, Joyce Dunge, assured the residents that no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators of heinous crime are brought to book.
She however appealed to the local residents to cooperate with police and provide relevant information to assist them in prosecuting the suspects.
“And we need some you to give us witnesses because without it, the case cannot go any further,” she advised.
On his part, the area chief, David Muge, asked the residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious people to help the security agencies to respond swiftly to effectively address crime matters.
