An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator wants the party die-hards to ignore Siaya Governor, James Orengo and other old guards opposed to the broad-based government, saying that they have no new ideas to offer.
Samuel Atandi, the Alego / Usonga member of parliament said the old guards, who include Orengo, were hell bent on derailing ODM from its focus of being in power by engaging in politics of division and demonstration.
Speaking at Nyalwanga village in Komenya Kalaka sub location in his constituency today, Atandi who was flanked by Garsen MP, Guyo Ali Wario said the party has no room for selfish leaders who think that they can cunningly fill former prime minister, Raila Odinga’s shoes.
“We want ODM members to know and understand that before Raila passed on, he advised us to remain and work with President William Ruto” he said adding “we are not going to break that friendship because of a few selfish leaders.
The legislator said political parties are formed to ascend to power adding that there was no way they will keep quiet and watch ODM remain in the opposition forever.
He challenged Orengo, as an old guard who worked with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Raila to tell the public how he was unable to help the two ascend to power despite always boasting of being close to them.
“We want these old leaders in ODM, like Orengo, to explain to us how come they were with Jaramogi and Raila but William Ruto came from nowhere and “grabbed” power. What were they doing when Ruto did this?” he posed.
Atandi told ODM supporters and Nyanza residents in particular not to listen to Orengo.
“I want to urge Luos- do not listen to people like James Orengo. I think they are expired goods” he said, adding “let us listen to new leaders. We are here. Listen to us because we know where the country is going”.
Garsen MP, Guyo Ali Wario called on Kenyans to unite under the broad-based government.
“Raila left us in good hands under the broad-based government. Let us remain there so as to benefit like the rest,” he said.
Wario assured ODM supporters that ODM will not disintegrate but warned against ignoring the former prime minister’s will that the party works with President William Ruto.
ODM has been rocked by conflicting views among top leaders since the death former leader, Raila Odinga on October15, 2025 at Devamatha hospital, Koothattukulam, India.
Two factions, pro and anti-broad-based government, have emerged pushing the party in stormy waters.
