Church leaders in Ntimaru Sub-County, Migori, have strongly condemned recent acts of forced Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) ceremonies, especially by the Kuria community.
The clergy described the acts as barbaric, unconstitutional and a direct violation of human rights.
During a press briefing at Komotobo Maranatha Faith Assembly church, the clergy led by Rev. Dr Julius Marwa raised alarm over continued FGM activities and also coordinated abuse attacks targeting church members, pastors, youths, and girls who have openly championed anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) activities.
Pastor Paul Girimbe, the President of South East Nyanza Field of Seventy Day Adventist Church (SDA), emphasised that although the church does not interfere with the cultural practices of any community, culture must respect the constitution of Kenya, human dignity and the right of every individual to make personal choices.
The clergy also called upon the Kuria clan elders to respect the church and stop using fear and intimidation to enforce harmful practices on the community.
Migori County Commissioner Kisilu Mutua had also given a stern warning to the Kuria community during the 2025 December holidays that those found practicing FGM would face the law.
A fortnight ago, Micontrap Kenya, Non-Governmental organisation and gender activists in Migori County started the process of supporting and incorporating the Kuria girls who had escaped the cut back to the society as schools reopened this week.
