Vihiga Governor. Dr Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo today disclosed that the County has allocated Sh115 million to hasten implementation of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP).
The county boss underscored that the project aims at boosting industrialization and catalyzing economic growth in the region.
Speaking during a consultative meeting held together with Vihiga County Commissioner, Peter Maina, and delegations from the State Department of Industry as well as the Council of Governors, the governor said the funds have been deposited in a Special Purpose Account to ensure smooth and accountable implementation of the project.
He noted that the financial arrangement will also enable the National Government to ring-fence its contribution of Sh250 million towards completion of the co-funded initiative.
Ottichilo said the industrial park, being implemented through the Department of Commerce, Tourism and Cooperatives, is expected to enhance value addition and create new market opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs in the county.
The project will focus on key agricultural value chains including avocado, banana, dairy, African leafy vegetables and improved indigenous chicken, while also promoting trade and agricultural skills development.
At the same time, the facility is expected to attract manufacturing and processing industries, strengthen Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and create employment opportunities for local residents, particularly the youth.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the National Government and other stakeholders to ensure timely completion of the project for the benefit of wananchi.
