Police in Busia have intercepted illicit drugs worth more than Sh56 million street value since the beginning of the month of August to date.
Speaking to the press in his office on Monday, Busia County Police Commander, Robinson Langat said that the illicit drugs include more than 800 kgs of bhang (cannabis sativa) that was intercepted while on transit from the neighboring country of Uganda.
Langat added that the suspects in connection with the incident were arrested and the case is ongoing at Busia Court.
The police commander further disclosed that another 2.65 kgs of methamphetamine worth Sh21, 250,000 street value was intercepted at Busia Bus stage on August 5.
“One of the suspects (the driver) was arrested and the case is ongoing in court while the conductor is still at large,” he said, adding that security officers were still tracing his whereabouts.
Langat at the same time commended the cordial relationship between the security officers and members of the public leading breakthrough in efforts to eradicate crime in the society.
“I want to thank the local residents of Busia for working closely with our officers to help reduce the influx of illicit drugs in our country,” he said.
He warned the local residents against joining illegal gangs and participating in acts of goonism, adding that they risked being arrested and arraigned in court.
