A 35-year-old woman has died, while a second woman remains in critical condition after the two were allegedly attacked with knives by a man at a rental property near Kajiado Police Station.
The incident happened on Monday, October 12, at approximately 5pm, about 100 metres from the police station in Kajiado town.
Kajiado Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief David Cheruiyot said officers were alerted by a resident who reported hearing a commotion from one of the rental houses.
Police officers dispatched to the scene found two women with multiple stab wounds.
The first victim, identified as Mbithe, 35, was discovered inside the suspect’s house with injuries to her left hip and both forearms. The second, Doreen Akinyi, 49, was found a short distance from the doorway with wounds to her head and right hand.
The two were taken to Kajiado County Referral Hospital for emergency treatment. However, Mbithe was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Akinyi remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The suspect was identified as Bernard Ochieng Owiti, 30. Investigators said he reportedly presented himself at Kajiado Police Station shortly after the attack, carrying two knives stained with blood.
According to police, Owiti admitted to stabbing the two women and was arrested before being placed in custody.
Mbithe’s body was transferred to the hospital mortuary as arrangements were made for an autopsy and formal identification.
Detectives are investigating the incident to determine what led to the attack and establish the circumstances surrounding it.
