Appeal for Integrity in recruitment exercise

Members of the Kisii County Census Committee (CCC) have been urged to observe integrity and transparency in the ongoing recruitment of candidates to undertake the population census in August 2019.

Chairing the CCC meeting in his office, Area County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi appealed to the members to ensure only competent and deserving people were recruited for the sake of credibility in the whole exercise.

“I do not see why we should hire many employed people and leave out our poor unemployed youth,” noted Kigochi.

His sentiments comes even as countrywide shortlisting and interviews of candidates for the position of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) supervisors, Content supervisors and Enumerators is going on.

In Kisii County, 3,500 enumerators, 431 Content supervisors and 53 ICT supervisors will be hired to carry out the Population and Housing Census from the night of August 24 /25 to 31 2019.

Secretary to the committee Mr. Alphonse Orang’o noted it was the first time Kenya’s population census was using mobile technology in data collection during the actual census enumeration.

He explained that Kisii would receive 4,000. mobile tablet gadgets that will be used to input populace data, out of the 165,000 that will be available nationwide.

The committee which was composed of various stakeholders including Deputy CC Leornard Mgute, County Director National Council of Population and Development Rose Wakuloba, County Commander Martin Kebet and Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Officer Praxedes Abuto among others, agreed on matters of security, modalities for shortlisting and action plan considering immediacy of the matter.

They were also reminded about affirmative actions as stipulated in the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census Recruitment Guide, which states that the criteria for recruitment must be sensitive to gender, persons with disability, minorities, marginalised persons and the unemployed among others.
