Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka has urged young people in the constituency to enrol for technical and vocational courses, saying practical skills can open doors to employment and self-employment at a time when formal jobs remain limited.
Speaking in Khwisero on Monday, Aseka encouraged youth to take advantage of the September 2026 intake at Khwisero Technical and Vocational College and pursue courses including electrical engineering, electrical installation, plumbing, masonry, welding and fabrication, and computer servicing.
He said young people should look beyond academic qualifications and acquire practical skills that can enable them to provide services and earn an income within their communities.
Aseka noted that trained plumbers, electricians, masons, welders and computer technicians could create employment for others instead of relying entirely on the government and private sector for jobs.
“We need to encourage our young people to acquire skills that they can use to create opportunities for themselves,” Aseka said.
The MP urged parents and guardians to support young people seeking technical training, noting that vocational education was an important pathway for equipping the next generation with skills needed in the local economy.
He said technical colleges should be viewed as institutions that prepare young people for practical careers and entrepreneurship rather than as alternatives for those who fail to qualify for university.
Aseka encouraged eligible youth from Khwisero to take advantage of the September intake and select courses that match their interests and the demand for skilled services.
The call comes as the college opens its September 2026 intake, with prospective trainees encouraged to apply and acquire skills that could help them enter the job market or establish their own enterprises.
