Busia County Commissioner, Mwachaunga Chaunga, has warned law breakers involved criminal gangs’ activities and terrorizing area residents that they will face full force of the law, when finally arrested.
Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Busende primary school grounds, Chaunga said the government will no longer condone acts of hooliganism, adding the security had already been beefed up in the affected areas.
“We have received information on the emerging gangs in Bumala and in Samia sub counties. These gangs are made up of the youths, who are terrorizing residents at night armed with machetes and panga. We have beefed up our security patrols in these areas and we are telling the criminal gangs to cease forthwith, because we are going to get them and the consequences will be severe,” he said.
The CC challenged the parents to take responsibility by ensuring their children are not entangled in criminal activities.
“We are going to use all available means to ensure there is peace in the county and country at large. As we warn our youth, parents should also play their role. These children walking and terrorizing others come from homes. What are you doing as parents when you know your child is not at home at night? Let us get engaged in our children’s affairs so that they don’t join the criminal gangs,” he said.
The CC urged members of the public to register as voters so that they can take part in the 2027 general election.
“It’s your right to vote and for you to enjoy the right, you have to be registered. 2027 is coming. That’s why I am calling on everyone who is not registered to ensure that they are registered. I want to ask the administrators to help in public sensitization so that people can come out and register as voters,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by the Busia county governor, Dr. Paul Otuoma, who directed the ward and sub county administrators to help in mobilizing locals to register with IEBC.
“We are going to engage with IEBC to understand if there is a way we can help to ensure the services are brought closer to residents, who are not yet registered.
If we take part in elections, that’s when we shape the destiny of our country through electing those people who can help us to move forward through development,” said Otuoma.
