In an impressive display of skill and dedication, Fig Tree Academy’s extracurricular programmes have rapidly developed into some of the most competitive in the region.

The academy, which began its extracurricular initiatives in 2022, offers a variety of engaging activities, including Rubik’s Cube, chess, Scrabble, and abacus.

The remarkable progress made by students in these programmes has earned them multiple accolades, particularly in Chess and Rubik’s Cube competitions.

One of the standout success stories has been the academy’s Chess team, which has seen rapid growth, thanks to several tournaments and a keen focus on developing strategic minds. The competitive spirit in chess has fostered a community of champions, with top players like David Wachira, James Kariuki, Blessing Wanjiku, and Favour Wangui leading the charge.

The academy’s Chess players have continually showcased their prowess in various tournaments, bringing home multiple trophies and cementing their place as some of the best in the region.

In particular, David Wachira and James Kariuki have established themselves as exceptional talents. Both players took top spots in the recent tournament held on January 25th at Afraha, Nakuru. The Under 16 boys’ category saw them dominate, securing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. Their remarkable performances have made them standout names in the academy’s chess programme, and their success is a testament to the quality coaching and training they’ve received.

The Rubik’s Cube programme at the Academy has also become a breeding ground for speedcubing excellence. David Wachira, once again, has shown exceptional skill, securing the top spot as the fastest student in the academy with an impressive solve time of just 10.51 seconds. His fellow competitor, James Kariuki, is not far behind, with a time of 15.00 seconds.

Their precision and speed have earned them recognition not only at the academy but also on the larger competitive stage.

The tournament proved to be a monumental day for the academy’s Rubik’s Cube team, as several Fig Tree Academy students clinched top positions across various categories.

David Wachira once again took home the gold in the Under 16 boys’ category, while James Kariuki was placed second.

In the Under 14 girl’s category, Blessing Wanjiku and Favour Wangui claimed 1st and 2nd positions, respectively, further proving the academy’s success in grooming top-tier talent.

In the Under 12 boys’ category, Wayne Wambugu stood out, earning the 3rd position. His consistency and determination have made him one to watch in the coming years.

In the Under 14 boys’ category, Justus Ondera demonstrated his skills, claiming the 2nd spot.

Meanwhile, Ashley Ruth impressed in the Under 16 girls’ category by securing 2nd place, showcasing the growth of female competitors in the academy.

One of the standout features of Fig Tree Academy’s extracurricular programmes is the blend of focused academic work and extracurricular excellence.

For instance, the Abacus programme, which is incorporated into the students’ daily lessons, continues to improve their mental arithmetic skills. The programme’s success has been marked by the way students excel in competitive environments, thanks to the training they receive in mental math and concentration.

The results of the recent tournaments reflect not only the talent of the students but also the strength of their training programmes.

Under the guidance of experienced mentors, the students of Fig Tree Academy have consistently performed well in both Chess and Rubik’s Cube competitions, showcasing their aptitude, dedication, and teamwork.

“I have always loved challenging myself, and these competitions have been a great way to push my limits. The training I have received here at Fig Tree Academy has really helped me sharpen my skills, and it is amazing to see the results in these tournaments,” Wachira says.

As the academy continues to grow, the success in extracurricular activities such as Chess, Rubik’s Cube, Scrabble, and Abacus is expected to expand, attracting even more talent to its doors.

The academy’s continued commitment to nurturing the potential of its students is evident in the impressive number of trophies won, which is only a glimpse of the bright future ahead.

“I am incredibly proud of all the students, especially David and James. Their growth has been impressive, and their success is the result of their dedication, focus, and the discipline they bring to both their studies and extracurricular activities,” Omondi, games teacher and coach, explained.

With the continued support of coaches, mentors, and parents, Fig Tree Academy is poised to keep producing champions across various disciplines. It is clear that the academy’s commitment to excellence is yielding exceptional results, with students like David Wachira, James Kariuki, and Blessing Wanjiku paving the way for future successes in the world of competitive extracurricular.
