Makueni Governor, Mutula Kilonzo Jr., commissioned two water projects in Mbitini Ward in Nzaui Sub-county with an aim of expanding access to clean and reliable water to the residents.
In the first project, Mutula commissioned the Ilengeni Water distribution at Kwa Thuku area that will supply 160 cubic meters of water daily to 15 villages spread across Mbitini and Emali Mulala wards.
The water that will be distributed through nine community water points has an 11-kilometer pipeline and a water storage facility where water will be pumped from to benefit the people in the area.
“The water to be distributed will be drawn from the 25,000 cubic meters in Ilengeni Dam. The dam has a treatment plant, hybrid-powered pumping solar system storage facilities and an extensive distribution network,” said Mutula while commissioning the dam at Kwa Thuku area on Wednesday.
In the second undertaking, the Governor officially commissioned the Mutyambua Safe Water Project, an initiative implemented jointly by Water Mission and AIRD in collaboration with the County government of Makueni.
The project was funded by Procter and Gamble and will provide safe and reliable water access to more than 2,000 people and to four (4) institutions in the area.
“The project is expected to provide safe and reliable water access to more than 2,000 residents. It has a water treatment plant and 10 distribution water points and serves four public institutions,” added the Governor.
The Projects are a major step in the Governor’s commitment to sustainable water access and improved livelihoods across Makueni County.
