Tharaka Nithi Huduma Centre manager, Ms. Rosemary Kaloki, has urged residents who applied for government documents to collect them, as hundreds of processed documents were still lying uncollected at the center.
Ms. Kaloki said the uncollected documents include 111 birth certificates, six death certificates, 479 new identity cards, and 2,587 duplicate identity cards.
Speaking to the Kenya News Agency, Kaloki said the center was making efforts to reach applicants and ensure they collect their documents to clear the backlog and improve service delivery.
She attributed the high number of uncollected documents to various factors, including applicants providing incorrect contact details, making it difficult for the centre to notify them once their documents are ready.
“Efforts are being made to address pending cases and improve service delivery. We use messages, phone calls, media engagements, and publicity to reach applicants,” said Ms. Kaloki.
She urged residents who had applied for documents to confirm the status of their applications by visiting the Huduma Centre or checking through cyber services and the e-Citizen platform.
Kaloki further announced that the center would have a biometric kit soon, which she said would enhance the processing of documents and reduce waiting time for applicants.
The manager encouraged residents with pending or uncollected documents to follow up through the appropriate channels and collect them once notified.
Meanwhile, Deborah Jeruto, a Chuka University student who visited the center to rectify a mistake made while applying for HELB services, rated the services at the center nine out of ten.
The Huduma Centre provides various government services under one roof, enabling residents to access essential services without travelling to different government offices.
The center’s efforts to contact applicants and introduce additional equipment are expected to facilitate the collection of pending documents and enhance efficiency in government service delivery.
