IG Kanja commissions new administration block in Kiamumbi police station

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has commissioned a newly constructed administration block at Kiamumbi Police Station in Kiambu County and pledged continued support towards improving police infrastructure and officers’ welfare.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Kanja lauded efforts by local leaders to enhance security facilities and announced a Sh1 million donation to furnish the new administration block and equip it with essential office facilities.

The Inspector General also pledged to support the construction of a police canteen at the station in the next financial year, noting that improving officers’ working conditions remains key to enhancing service delivery.

“To support our officers and improve their welfare, I will personally facilitate the construction of a police canteen at Kiamumbi Police Station in the new financial year,” said Kanja.

He noted that modern and well-equipped facilities are critical in enabling police officers to effectively discharge their duties and respond to the security needs of the community.

The newly commissioned block will house several key offices, including the Criminal Investigations Office, Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS) office, Jailer’s office, Anti-Crime Unit and a Child Protection Unit. The facility is expected to boost operational efficiency and strengthen community policing initiatives in the area.

The event was attended by Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat, Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohammed Ibrahim and other senior security officials.

Area Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka, who spearheaded the project through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), said the administration block was constructed in two phases as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security infrastructure in the constituency.

Waithaka noted that police stations in the area continue to face challenges, particularly inadequate transport resources, revealing that Kiamumbi Police Station currently operates with only one patrol vehicle.

He pledged to lobby for additional vehicles to be allocated to at least five police stations within the ward to enhance security operations and emergency response.

The legislator further announced plans to improve officers’ welfare through the construction of a police canteen, while highlighting other development projects undertaken in the area, including the renovation of Riabai Police Station and ongoing road improvement works along Mugumo Road, Kok Road and Elizabeth Street.

The commissioning of the new administration block marks a significant step in efforts to modernize police infrastructure and improve service delivery within Kiambu County.
