Kalokol Water Supply Phase II begins after Loyoro site

Turkana County Government has officially handed over the Kalokol Water Supply Project Phase II site to the contractor, in a move set to boost clean water access across the Loyoro–Kalokol catchment.

The exercise was conducted at Loyoro, where a 200m³ elevated steel tank already exists as part of the system.

The project will be laying a pipeline from Loyoro to Kalokol, construction of additional 100m³ elevated steel tank, one water kiosk, and connections to key institutions including Loyoro primary School, Dispensary, and a community water point.

The works aim to enhance reliable access to safe water for both domestic and institutional use.

Speaking during the event, Water services Director Paul Lotum reaffirmed the county’s commitment to improving water services.

“This project is a clear demonstration of our resolve to ensure every household and institution has access to safe and reliable water,” he said.

Lotum urged the contractor to adhere to quality standards and timelines, noting that timely completion would significantly improve livelihoods in the area.

Eng Rainard Wanjala, in his address to the community, emphasized the commitment to adhering to all technical requirements while implementing the project.

“We have designed this system to sustainably serve both current and future demand.

Community support and proper maintenance will be key to its long-term success,” he noted.

Upon completion, the project is expected to benefit the Loyoro community, local institutions, and residents of Kalokol town by strengthening water supply for domestic use, health services, and education.
