Kiambu Women’s forum celebrates achievements, strengthens empowerment agenda

Women leaders and representatives from all the 60 wards in Kiambu County gathered at the county headquarters for the Kiambu County Women’s Forum, an event that celebrated the achievements and resilience of women while providing a platform to advance gender equality and economic empowerment.

The forum was attended by Governor Dr. Kimani Wamatangi; his Deputy Rosemary Kirika; County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Gender, Culture, and Social Services Dr. Mercy Njagi; Chief Officer for Vocational Training and Social Services Emily Nkoroi; and several Members of the County Assembly.

The event brought together women representatives from across the county in a vibrant celebration aimed at recognizing the critical role women play in community development and fostering partnerships that promote social and economic progress.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Mercy Njagi said the county government remains committed to creating platforms that empower women and enhance their participation in development initiatives.

“The Kiambu County Women’s Forum is more than a celebration. It is a platform for women to engage, share experiences, and build partnerships that will help advance gender equality, economic empowerment, and social development across the county,” said Dr. Njagi.

She noted that women have continued to play a significant role in transforming communities and called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to ensure they are equipped with opportunities and resources necessary for growth.

Dr. Njagi further emphasized the need to strengthen programmes that promote inclusion and improve the welfare of women, saying empowering women translates into stronger families and more prosperous communities.

The Department of Health also used the occasion to provide free health services to participants, including cancer screening, blood pressure checks and other medical interventions aimed at promoting preventive healthcare.

Governor Wamatangi assured women of his administration’s support through Women’s Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) and other empowerment initiatives designed to boost their economic status and improve livelihoods.

He said empowering women financially remains central to the county government’s development agenda and pledged continued support to ensure more women benefit from county programmes.

Participants hailed the forum as a valuable opportunity to network and exchange ideas, expressing optimism that enhanced collaboration between women groups and the county government would contribute to inclusive growth and sustainable development in Kiambu County.
