A section of leaders in Siaya county, now want the local governor James Orengo to send his entire cabinet packing for allegedly abetting irregular recruitment of ghost workers at the various county departments.
The leaders, led by Gem Member of parliament, Elisha Odhiambo wants governor the entire cabinet dissolve for fresh appointments in the wake of revelations that at least 382 recently sacked health workers were reportedly dubiously enlisted in the county’s payroll.
He insisted that the county bosses cannot continue to bury their heads in sand, while feigning ignorance over the scam in which preliminary reports indicate that the affected workers were secretly recruited early this year.
The MP was speaking at Mutumbu in Gem, Yala sub county during the disbursement of Gem women and youth empowerment program funds.
He said that time was running out for Orengo to put his house in order, adding that it was despicable and unacceptable to treat the victims as children of a lesser God.
Odhiambo at the same time called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to hasten its investigations and take action on the culprits behind the employment scandal that saw job seekers lose millions of shillings.
“I am calling upon the EACC to be a bit faster and if in any way, the people around Orengo are found to be culpable, we will conclude that the governor was aware of what was happening” he said.
Meanwhile, Odhiambo told former president Uhuru Kenyatta to stop interfering with the country’s leadership.
He said that as former president, Uhuru should be enjoying his retirement in peace, instead of throwing jabs at the leadership of president Dr. William Ruto.
The Gem MP said that Uhuru’s presidency was not clean as he would want to portray, saying that he personally suffered at the hands of the previous government, who unleashed the elite General Service Unit (GSU) officers to his constituency in 2017 where he was shot at.
